Story

Raqketa is an intern counselor at  Tapestry and a current Clinical Mental Health Counseling student at Richmont Graduate University. She is deeply grateful for her schooling journey and for the transformative power of higher education. She is excited to have arrived at a place where she can use her experience and expertise to help and care for others.

Raqketa grew up in rural East Texas before relocating to Dallas to attend Southern Methodist University (SMU) where she studied Religion and Psychology. Upon graduating from SMU, Raqketa deferred attending law school, moved to Atlanta to join Teach for America, and served as a public elementary school teacher for several years. After completing her time in the classroom, Raqketa attended law school at University of Georgia. She practiced law in Atlanta for over a decade before transitioning into counseling work.

Raqketa grew up Christian and identifies as a “church kid.” She has always considered both her faith journey and her religious practice as salient aspects of her identity. As a counselor, the values her spirituality has taught her – patience, compassion, humility, and empathy – are deeply evident in her work. Raqketa is especially drawn to helping clients identify their values and to guiding them as they bring their lives into greater alignment with what is truly important to them. She believes that, along the way, it is important to identify, celebrate, and build on her clients’ strengths that have served them and helped them survive thus far. She loves laughter and moments of levity and sprinkles in humor wherever she can.

When not sitting with clients in the therapy room, Raqketa loves to take advantage of opportunities for quality time with her husband. She has two young sons and is also especially enjoying the era of getting to be a “baseball mom.” Raqketa finds joy and connection in being plugged into a faith community and, along with her husband and children, is very active in her church. When all else fails, you can find her curled up with a book - she is an avid reader and poetry lover (and is always open to good book recommendations!)
